Student Permit Information

Do I need a parking permit?

**FIRST-YEAR RESIDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES TO CAMPUS, PURCHASE A PERMIT, OR PARK ON CAMPUS. Special provisions are not made for the perceived need for a parking permit. It is our experience that employment, family, volunteer, and other needs are present in the entire student body. There is no equitable manner to determine who has the greatest need. We will make every possible space available to faculty, staff, and students but are restricted to the number of spaces in our parking areas

All vehicles parked on campus must have an active parking permit displayed in their vehicle. Permits can be ordered online at parking.tulane.edu and picked up in the Campus Services office in the Lavin-Bernick Center. There, you may purchase a permit using an available iPad. Bring your Splash Card with you to the office. Student permits can be paid with credit card, cash or check. We are not able to accept American Express and permits may not be purchased on student accounts receivable. Parking zones are strictly regulated to ensure there are spaces available for valid permit holders.

Parking Options for Students

Residential Permits are available to students who reside on campus in one of Tulane's residential halls. Parking is available to residential students 24/7 in the Diboll Garage. Other areas are marked in yellow on the parking map. Please see the parking rules for additional information related to this permit type.

Commuting Permits are available to students who live off campus. Parking is available in the Diboll Garage, the Claiborne Avenue lot and other areas marked in red and yellow on the parking map. Please see the parking rules for additional information related to this permit type.

Hourly parking spaces are located throughout campus. If you are parked in an hourly space, please make sure you have paid through the ParkMobile app. Hourly spaces are a 2-hour maximum.

Daily Permits are available for purchase online and in the Customer Engagement office. Daily permits purchased online are printed at home and placed on your dashboard. You can also purchase daily permits in our office. Daily permits are only valid in the Claiborne Lot and Diboll Garage, third floor and above.

Handicap Permits are available for students with a disability, permanent or temporary. Handicap parking permits are valid in accessible locations near campus buildings.

  • Annual handicap permits are purchased in lieu of a commuter or residential permit, not in addition. Pricing is the same as a commuter or residential permit depending on whether you live on or off campus. Individuals who have a state-issued handicap permit should provide a copy to the Campus Services office or email parking@tulane.edu, after which an annual handicap permit will be issued.
  • Temporary handicap permits are available for students who have a temporary need.  These permits are not valid in accessible parking spaces. They will enable the student to park in a legal, unmarked parking space near their building. Pricing is $5 per day. Temporary handicap parking is available with a physician's letter identifying the nature of the disability and the length of time accommodations are needed. If a request is being made for an unspecified length of time, the request must go through the Goldman Center for Accessibility, located on the basement level of the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, or by calling them at (504) 865-5113. A new updated letter from a physician is required annually if the person does not have a state-issued handicap permit or license.
  • As long as a valid Tulane parking permit and a state-issued handicap placard or license plate are displayed, university affiliates may park in an accessible parking space.
  • Although we strive to provide adequate disabled parking in every area of campus, students are encouraged to contact us if your needs are not being met. We will provide any assistance possible to meet your needs including allocation of additional spaces, more enforcement, etc.

Where Can Students Park

Before 3 pm daily, students are required to park in their parking zone. Ample parking is available in the Diboll Garage and the Claiborne Avenue Lot. For all parking options, please see the parking map.

After 3 pm, students are allowed to park in other areas of campus. Students may never park in Cowen Circle or Newcomb Circle. Please see the parking map.

Parking is available on a first come basis for those with a valid permit. At this time permits are still available for purchase.

Game Day Parking

In order to accommodate home football game day parking, all campus parking spaces are turned over to game day operations and the only annual parking permits that are allowed on campus are Residential permits. Vehicles with a residential permit must be moved to the 5th and 6th floor of the Diboll Garage. Failure to move your car to the top two floors of the Diboll Garage, will result in a citation and your car may be towed to University Square. Each week before a home football game, you will receive at least two emails and signage will be placed in the garage and around campus as reminders.

Parking on Move-in Day

Move-in is a very special time at Tulane when we are welcoming our new students. There are special permits that are sent out to students from Student Affairs and Housing and Residence Life. Please check your e-mail for information on move-in day permits. On move-in day, your permit wil grant you access to park in Diboll Garage.

To ensure that we can accommodate unloading zones as well as parking for those with a move-in permit, all others are asked to park off campus that day. Information is sent out prior to move-in with alternatives.

Parking for Student's Guests

Guests are responsible for parking legally by either displaying a valid permit or parking in an hourly parking space and paying ParkMobile. Guest parking is located in the Diboll Garage, third floor and above, and in the Claiborne Lot. Students are responsible for informing their guests of applicable parking regulations and the need for display of a permit or payment using the ParkMobile app or the T2 paystation.

Spring Break parking

The two key things to know about spring break parking are all normal regulations are still in affect and will be enforced.

  1. If you wish to leave a vehicle on campus during spring break and do not have an annual permit, you must purchase a temporary permit at parking.tulane.edu or in the Campus Services office, Lavin-Bernick Center, Suite 107. You must park on the fifth floor of the Diboll Garage. Vehicles not displaying a permit will be cited.
  2. All parking areas and hourly parking spaces will continue to be enforced as usual during the break period. Vehicles may receive a ticket each day they are illegally parked without a permit.

Commuter Permits Parking Overnight

Students who live off campus and have a commuter permit but need to leave a vehicle on campus overnight must contact parking services prior to parking.
