Unified Green
The Unified Green project provides an invigorating central green space in the heart of the Uptown Campus for the Tulane University community to traverse, socialize, connect, and relax. The project will also improve stormwater mitigation as it unifies two of the most beloved outdoor spaces on the uptown campus: Newcomb Quad and the Berger Family Lawn. Unified Green aligns with the Tulane values of leading for a better tomorrow while providing a welcoming community space that fosters collaborative engagement in an enriching outdoor environment.
About Unified Green
Leading for a Better Tomorrow: Unified Green will facilitate stormwater detention, to reduce strain on the local drainage system. This project will store approximately 440,000 gallons of water, which is nearly the size of a standard eight-lane college swimming pool. The system will temporarily hold water during a storm and slowly release it into the city drainage system, helping reduce the risk of localized flooding during typical rain events.
Unified Green will also provide a Welcoming Community that Fosters Collaboration: The Unified Green project is the fourth and final phase of a years-long effort to enhance the pedestrian and campus experience surrounding Newcomb Quad and Berger Family Lawn. Once the project is completed, Tulanians can enjoy these vibrant and tranquil green spaces for study, play, outdoor meetings, and more.
Unified Green will be a central plaza that features dramatic multi-fixture lighting and flexible seating that will visually and physically connect the two greens, creating a space that serves the purpose for both intimate gatherings and large-scale campus events.
Construction for Unified Green will start on Monday, April 20, 2026, and is expected to be completed Spring 2027.

The construction of Unified Green will impact transportation routes, parking availability, and other operations in the surrounding area. Some parking areas will be replaced entirely with a welcoming green space that will include walking, seating, recreation, and meeting areas.
The segment of Newcomb Place from Drill Road to the end of Newcomb Circle will no longer be a parking option. Instead, this area will be transformed into a unified green space connecting the Berger Family Lawn and Newcomb Quad. There may also be parking interruptions in the surrounding area during construction.
As part of our continued efforts to address parking availability concerns, individuals who usually park between Newcomb and the Berger Family Lawn should contact Parking Services for alternative options if they encounter any difficulties parking on campus.

This magnificent lawn enhances the student experience with the addition of a pedestrian-focused corridor, in support of the 2016 Master Plan initiatives. This project will also detain thousands of cubic feet of stormwater.
Stormwater detention systems temporarily store rainwater during heavy storms. This mitigates flooding and reduces the amount of water entering the city’s drainage system at once. The water is slowly released or absorbed into the ground after the storm.
