Construction Alert: Natural Gas Smell on Uptown Campus

Campus Services is monitoring ongoing complaints regarding the smell of natural gas in relation to the deconstruction of Bruff Commons. Prior to deconstruction, gas was completely shut off and pipes were disconnected. Campus Services has been monitoring for the presence of natural gas to ensure safety in the area.

Today, while dismantling the gas lines in the former kitchen, the odor of natural gas was released. Any natural gas smell detected on Bruff Quad and in the surrounding areas is resulting from residual gas coating in the old pipes and, while unpleasant, is not harmful or combustible. Tests administered have shown that there is no natural gas coming through the lines, and the air is clear of natural gas.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
