Green Up Your Move-Out
Here are a few tips to make your move-out experience easier and more sustainable.
- Review your summer storage options.
- Donate what you cannot pack.
- Seek out Trash to Treasure and other donation opportunities through the spring semester. New homes can be found for most items to reuse, from laundry detergent to plastic storage bins.
- Volunteer with Trash to Treasure!
Trash to Treasure
Trash to Treasure is a student organization dedicated to reducing waste from our annual move-in and move-out cycles. Gently used items are collected at spring move-out and sold to during fall move-in.
Move-Out Resources Beyond Campus
Across the city there are several opportunities to donate gently used items to worthy organizations. Students living off campus contend with additional factors and move on a different schedule than students living on campus. Larger furniture and managing trash are the two primary hurdles. These resources are available to help students off campus plan their move on their schedule.
Greening NOLA Pick-Ups
Greeningnola.com will run pick-ups uptown for items like those collected for Trash to Treasure the weekends of commencement and Memorial Day. Visit their website to learn more and schedule a pick-up. Greening NOLA offers helpful tips for moving and setting up a new apartment as well.

Curbside Trash & Bulky Waste Pickup
“Bulky waste” can be an issue when moving. Bulky waste is waste that exceeds the size and quantity of trash collection bins. Because of the additional volume, a separate collection for bulky waste must be requested. Bulky waste should not be placed outside for collection more than 24 hours before the scheduled date.
If the apartment has city curbside trash service, call 311 to schedule a pickup of any bulky waste. Learn more about municipal bulky waste and trash collections online.
If the apartment has commercial trash service (buildings with four or more units), contact your landlord for disposal instructions.
Dumpsters at Aron Residence Hall
Students are invited to bring excess bagged trash to the move-out dumpsters along Ben Weiner Drive next to Aron Residences through the end of May.
