Stressed by moving too much stuff? Follow these tips to make your move-in easier and greener.
Some Basics
- Only pack and ship essentials to your dorm.
- Shop at Trash to Treasure for furniture and household items.
- Pack according to the season. Swap seasonal items during school breaks.
- Pro tip: You won't need clothes for cold weather until November.
- Pack fewer t-shirts. You will get a ton of promotional t-shirts over the academic year.
- Unbox small items at home to reduce your trash and recycling loads on campus arrival.
Items to Pack
- Reusable water bottle and reusable coffee tumbler to avoid disposable plastics.
- Surge protector that you can turn off to conserve electricity.
- Small hand towel to reduce use of disposable paper towels.
What Not to Bring
- Shared items for student rooms. Wait to coordinate when you arrive.
- Microwaves are prohibited to bring on campus because they are already in your residence.
- Mattress toppers. Wait until you arrive to assess the need. Most residence halls have double-sided memory foam mattresses. You can check the descriptions at: housing.tulane.edu/residence-halls
