Composting Leftover Pumpkins

Pumpkin Donation

Now that Halloween is over, donate your pumpkins! Laughing Buddha Nursery in Metairie and Local Cooling Farms in Bogalusa will be collecting pumpkins to feed their pigs, chickens, and goats. The pumpkins should have no paint, glitter, glue, or other inedible elements. If the pumpkins are falling apart, consider composting them instead.

Composting in New Orleans

You can compost many things year-round in New Orleans! Check out Compost NOW's Community Compost Map to find information about compost drop-off locations and times. Drop-off sites can accept fruit and vegetable scraps, egg and nut shells, tea bags, coffee grounds, filters, plain grains, plain pasta and plain bread. Compost NOW drop-off locations cannot accept meat, dairy, bones, or oily foods. Freeze your compost throughout the week and drop it off loose or in a compostable bag. Please check with the individual drop off sites about their capacity before dropping off multiple pumpkins at one time.
