Electrical Services

Electrical Services is responsible for maintaining, testing, and operating all Tulane owned electrical high voltage systems. These systems include but are not limited to electrical distribution systems, underground feeders, electrical step down transformers, and high voltage switchgears. The electrical services department ensures that the university maintains a reliable underground electrical distribution and emergency backup system through the employment of infrared technology and underground feeder test analysis. University transformers and switchgears are tested and cleaned annually to ensure that the lights stay on when needed. During storms and inclement weather, the electrical services group is solely responsible from switching power from Entergy to Cogen to assure that the university maintains power reliability. Electrical Services adheres to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding the operation and maintenance of the electrical cogenerating system and meets requirements outlined in the National Electrical Code.
